What a “Goose Bumps Moment” Looks Like at MTC.
When we asked Anthony what he loves about the work, he went straight to the goose bumps:
“Over the years, I have had the privilege of experiencing many “goose bumps” moments. These special moments happen when individuals work diligently, taking one step at a time, until they finally achieve a goal they have been working toward. Witnessing their excitement, pride, and joy when they succeed is truly unforgettable.
Behind the scenes, and central to everything.
Most of this work happens without fanfare. No audience, no applause. Just one person helping another person do something a little more independently than they could the week before.
That’s how independence actually gets built. Not in one dramatic breakthrough – in hundreds of small, patient, unglamorous steps, with someone alongside who believes the next one is possible.
Compassion. Patience. The kind of commitment that doesn’t waver. Our DSPs bring all of it.
What a DSP does.
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides compassionate care, support, and training to individuals in our Day Program while promoting independence and community inclusion.
The work is skilled, and it takes a specific kind of person – steady, patient, genuinely curious about somebody else’s life.
MacDonald Training Center (MTC) is dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities by fostering independence and enhancing their quality of life. The individuals we serve set their own goals. Our DSPs don’tdecide what a good life looks like for someone. They walk beside them while they build it.
DSP’s are the heart of what we do.
MTC celebrates the following Direct Support Professionals across our Cypress and Sabal locations:
Cypress: Anthony, Nancy, Rebekah, Princess, Nicole
Sabal: Cheryl, Courtney, Hanna, Imari, Judy, Kollie, Lacora, Marlixia, Netasha, Shagari, Shannon, Terri
They know the people they support – not just the plans and the goals, but the favorite songs and what their sense of humor looks like. That kind of knowing can’t be rushed or faked, and it’s exactly where the progress comes from. Trust first. Everything else after.
DSP’s are the heart of what we do.
If a Direct Support Professional has made a difference for someone in your life, this is a good week to tell them.
Leave a comment on any of our social media posts, send a note, say it in person. We’ll make sure our team hears it.
